Hunter Angels Syndicate
Hunter Angels offers members the opportunity to participate in a syndicate where we access and invest in the best opportunities in our pipeline.
This opportunity is exclusive to fully paid Hunter Angels members. They syndicate will establish a nominee company each financial year eg HAL 2026 Syndicate Pty Limited . All syndicate members would be shareholders of nominee company to ensure regulatory compliance and minimise any regulatory risks. All syndicate members will be invited to be directors of nominee company. This is optional – some members may like to be quite hands on and involved in the decision making, while others may prefer to simply make the investments as they arise.
The nominee company will own the assets of behalf of shareholders. There will be a joint venture agreement entered into between shareholders. The minimum investment will be $10k annually paid in July each year into designated HAL trust account. This approach avoids AFSL and minimises administration. Any costs and interest earned will be borne by HAL.
Investment Guidelines & Committee
- Targeted investment amount $50,000 per investment (2-3 investments annually) however there may be some flexibility on this depending on syndicate monies raised / deal flow
- Investments should meet our Investment Criteria
- All syndicate members would be given option to be part of Investment Committee (IC)
- IC would perform due diligence on each worthy opportunity and arrange pitches
- IC has discretion to invest up to 50% of total syndicate monies by majority vote.
- Syndicate members would have discretion to opt out of investing their remaining 50% in each opportunity
- Any uninvested amounts are returned to the syndicate member at the end of the financial year
Investment Sources
The syndicate will become Hunter Angel’s primary means of supporting resourced and curated investment. Our goal is to unashamedly support the Hunter innovation ecosystem so priority will be given to Hunter-based opportunities. Hunter-based sources of investments include I2N, Hunter Medical Research Institute, Melt Funds, Unify Ventures etc. Opportunities outside of the Hunter will be derived through the Australian Angels network.
Partnerships
We recognise that innovation is a team sport and we will not succeed in our role in fostering innovation in the Hunter without collaborating with other key actors. We have formed partnerships with some of those actors and are actively working to build more. We thank our partners for the time and access that they provide and for recognising and supporting our role.
